(T)wisted Fate #AtoZChallenge
He adjusted his tie, standing in the front of the full-length mirror on his bedroom wall. After all these years, his looks could still kill and so could his smile if only he chose to smile. But if only anybody looked through beyond his glasses into those almond brown eyes. His black tuxedo still looked new withstanding effect of time and he would be lying if he said he wasn’t surprised to fit into it. But wearing this for the first time was symbolic to him. As the memories of the day when he had purchased it flashed through his mind, he couldn’t smile this time. After all he had never thought of wearing it since the time he had called off his wedding with her. Even today he regretted this decision than any other.
It wasn’t like that after letting her go he didn’t find anyone, but things were never the same. The love that was lost could never return. He understood this only after he filed for divorce just after two years of his marriage. He had been alone since then, giving every minute of his energy and every second of his waking hours to only one thing that was left now, his career. It was during these workaholic hours, he heard the news through a single mutual friend they had. All these years when he was dying to hear her voice again, he had never imagined that when he would hear her name again would be like this. Regret resurfaced in his heart.
He was the last one to reach the venue, as planned. He didn’t want to grab any attention from her friends or relatives. One glimpse of her was all he wanted to be at peace. As the time passed and ceremonies were performed one after the other, he stood invisible in one corner. He was the last one to leave in his black suit, which he wore for the first and the last time on her funeral. So was his twisted fate.
