The cab took the last few left turns and was about to stop in another five minutes.
“Mom, where are we going? Aren’t we supposed to go your friend’s house?” she asked, judging around by the locality that this wasn’t the place they were supposed to be. She was too smart for a four-year-old.
“Oh, we will be going there too honey. I just wanted to go somewhere before we headed to the wedding”, Mia found herself a little irritated with her daughter’s constant rain of question since the time they both had stepped out of the airport. Oh, the airport, it brought back so many memories. And this little kid wasn’t letting her relive even one. She had avoided the trip back to this city for a lot of reasons but their memories was the hidden reason of all. She knew her heart and mind would be flooded with those moments that were once her everything.
It all seemed so distant and unreal, as if that was life out of a story book. If only life was a fairy tale. And a series of if onlys followed one after the other. She had been so happy then. It wasn’t like that she wasn’t happy in her life right now but somethings quite never really leave you. May be this was one of those.
The cab stopped. A few buildings of the society has been remodeled it seemed but hers was still the same. She told the cab to wait and told her daughter to be there that she’ll be right back. She had no idea why she was here and what she wanted to do. May she just wanted to let go of something she had been holding on for far too long now. She went upstairs and knocked at the door.
Some old lady opened the door. So, they have rented it to some family now; she thought. As soon as the door opened and she got the glance of the house, she found herself in a state she didn’t understand. It was overwhelming but she didn’t feel anything. All the memories came out of the door to hug her and she stood there dumbstruck.
“Yes?” the old lady asked again, bringing her back to reality.
“Ah, sorry wrong door!” She said and turned away, one last time.
“Who was it, Mom?” asked a middle-aged woman when the old lady closed the door behind her.
“Just someone looking for the lost memories, I guess!”
