What You Don’t Know #BarAThon

He stepped down smartly dressed in a pale peach casual shirt with dark blue denim. Without even glancing at his parents, he headed straight towards the door.
“Avinash, the breakfast is ready. Come”, his mother, Leela spoke politely.
” No Mom! You already forced food through my throat yesterday. I’m not hungry”, he replied rudely.
“But son, today is..”, even before she could complete her sentence he was gone. She heard his motorbike kick off. Tears brimmed in her eyes when she saw his favourite dishes untouched by him.

Tying to swipe off the morning encounter with his mom, he rode past the advised limit of 60mph. Clouded with thoughts, wind that slapped him didn’t bring him any peace. He knew that he wasn’t doing it right with his parents. They are getting old and don’t deserve any of his tantrums. But why can’t they just leave me alone, he argued with himself.
Within 20 minutes, he was in front of his office. The ride which usually took him 40 minutes of he rode sensibly enough. He parked outside the pale white building which looked like straight out of comic books. Once white turned pale, now shades of grey and green covered it with cement patches and algae growth over water leakage. His mom always hated this place. It’s only for the time being Mom, until we get enough funding for our start-up, was his standard reply since past two years. Even she had disliked this place, a wandering thought caught his attention. He quickly dismissed it.
He walked up to second floor, there was no elevator in the building being only four-storeyed. He opened the door to his office to walk into a surprise. The dull yellow paint of the wall was gone. It was replaced by bold colors. Three walls were painted all blue with different figures with white drawn on it. One was typing, one was designing, few sat around the table discussing ideas which which were shown flying like birds. The other wall was a different shade of blue, a little darker, with company’s proposed logo and it’s  motto below it.
Before he could walk out thinking he had entered the wrong place, his team of three friends and four interns came out of the adjoining room. Everyone singing the birthday song on the top of their voices while Ritesh, his childhood best friend, was holding his favorite butterscotch cake. All throughout the customary cake ceremony and thank yous, Avinash had forced a smile on his face. Everyone was pleased to see him smile after months, but only the smile wasn’t natural.
What you don’t know is who did this! it’s our talented intern Dipshita. Didn’t knew you had this hidden talent too?” Joked Ritesh.
“Thanks. I hope Avinash liked it”, she spoke with a childlike nonchalance.
” Yes, I like it “, those were his own words before he excused himself. From among the group of four co-founders, he was the one who interacted the least with anyone. But things hadn’t been like this forever. Everything only changed one year ago is what they didn’t knew!

  1. A year ago means something happened on his birthday last year, no?
I do wish he takes some time to go back and eat the yummy meals his mom prepared!
