“Where are we going?” Alice asked as she tried to catch up with the fast steps of the elf. He was short but walked much faster than anyone could think he could. His old age was no hinderance to his speed.
“Keep walking. We going to the outskirts of the city where the Sorceress lives. She is a witch who is known for her dark magic during the night. She is called the Sorceress of the Cursed Kingdom. I’m sure she will help us out”, he spoke fast, running out of breath.
She questioned him no more and walked quietly as fast as she could. They walked for about an hour, sometimes on concrete road, sometimes in muddy footpath, sometimes taking a left turn other times a right. After they stopped, she looked around. She had never been to this place ever before. There was no settlement as far as she could see. Just the a few trees and the disputed barren land that stretched as far as the horizon. She looked around but could find no one. The sun was just a few minutes away from saying goodbyes. She had to do something before it was too late.
Just when she wondered if their efforts have been totally futile, she heard the elf murmuring a few words from the language alien to her. But the effect of those words she could sense around them. The rustling of the dry leaves, the wind was hitting her face harder, everything thing around her, gave her an eerie feeling. She could feel someone walking towards them but couldn’t see anyone. Her heart was now beating hard against her chest, a strange feeling was creeping up in her body which she had never known before. It was the feeling of fear. All she wanted to run away but something kept her feet fixed where she was.
“Hello Alfred, why have you come here?” a female shouted and Alice trembled. Yes, Alfred was his name, she now remembered.
“We, I and Princess Alice, have come to seek your help”, he spoke with all the strength that was left in his fragile body.
“And why do you think I would help you after what you did to me years ago?” the voice came out of no where.
“Whatever happened was not my decision.”
“But it was your suggestion to banish me from the kingdom! Why do you now come to seek the help of magic that you considered dark again ago” the pain of the betrayal was evident in her voice.
“Kingdom needs your help and you must help the kingdom!” he spoke with authority.
“Kingdom! Ha!!!” She laughed out the hardest and then continued, “You say I must help the kingdom that turned its back when I needed its support. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but go look for help somewhere else”, and the silence followed. There was no rustling of leaves, no wind, no feel.
Alice saw the sun touching the horizon and panicked. She quickly whispered to Alfred, “What’s her name?”
“Agatha”, he winced as he whispered back.
“Agatha, please listen to me. I don’t whatever had happened in the past but we really need your help. The sun is about to set, I have to rush to the palace for my coronation. Please.” Alice pleaded to no one in particular.
“Oh! So you are the Princess Alice, the brave-heart! What do you want? The cure to the Phoenix Blue Curse?”
“Yes”, Alice replied humbly, ” I will do whatever you say. Please help me break the curse.”
After few minutes of begging and pleading, Agatha finally agreed to spill the beans.
“After you have been crowned, the Queen Mary will perish. Take the ashes and the Blue stone ring, and come back here”, she spoke and just in that moment the sun set and darkness took over.
