Once Upon A Time #AtoZChallenge

She woke up as the first ray of light entered her room through the window. She left the bed without lazing around as she would usually prefer. Today wasn’t a regular day. Moreover, it hadn’t been an easy night for her. She kept tossing and turning from one side to the other, but sleep did little mercy on her. Finally, the Sun came up to rescue her.

She quickly vanished behind the door of her bathroom. After taking a long soothing bath, she emerged out in her navy blue bath robe with a towel tied tightly around her hair. Of course she needed a hair wash today. She pulled out the Navy blue gown that hung last in her wardrobe, awaiting its turn for this special occasion. Seconds later she stood in front of the mirror, clad in her gown, which shimmered slightly as the rays of light touched the fabric. Slight work of original drop-shaped pearls around the neck added to the royal feeling. Nobody could have guessed her age for she looked as pretty as a princess.
Her beautician knocked the door and she ushered her in with a gesture. She had brought with herself a full vanity kit.
“Just a little of it. It isn’t me who needs all the attention today”, she said to her.
In a few minutes, the beautician was gone and she was again alone in her room. This was the time she missed her husband the most. He would have showered her with all the beautiful adjectives known to the world. She walked to the wall where a life-size portrait of her husband hung. She kept staring at his husband’s portrait as if conversing with him in her silence.
A slight cough at the door broke her reverie. It was her daughter, standing at the door but hiding behind the curtains, feeling shy. Getting her mother’s full attention, she half ran into her arms for a warm hug.
“You look stunning Mom!” She exclaimed.
“But not more than you”, the mother gently replied.
In her purple knee-length silk dress, Alice looked every inch of a princess, but only she didn’t knew that. Mary, her mother, who couldn’t take eyes off her daughter, felt proud of her daughter and herself. She had taught her everything that she needed. Excellent Education, Finest Oratory skills, bravery that was unmatched, importance of kindness, sense of right judgement; her daughter had mastered it all. But there was one lesson that was left to be learnt which only Mary, her mother could teach her, not any other teacher. It was a lesson she should learn by heart before the world put Alice to the test. It was the lesson of Legacy.
Pulling out the old box of treasure from her locker, Mary turned to her daughter and started to speak, “Come sit Alice, I have a story to tell. Once upon a time…”
