Her phone rung again just when Ella was about to save the presentation she has been working over for last three and a half hours. She glanced at the name of caller and then let it ring. It rang again a few days minutes later and then once again when she was finally leaving for the day.
The calls have been countless coming from the single source, Mark. She hadn’t been receiving any calls from him, neither did she bother to reply to the messages he has sent. It wasn’t as if it has been for easy for her. Every time her phone would ring, she would almost pick it up to hear his voice wanting him to say those magical words. Everytime a message waited in her inbox, she would type a reply but would never send it. Days grew over one another and she drowned herself into her work not wanting to feel his absence from her life.
“Please talk to me once, for the last time.”
The next message said and she panicked. What did he meant by the last time? She thought. She was still staring at the message when her phone came to life singing her latest ringtone. She picked it up instantly.
“Mark, are you ok?”, was her first sentence and she sounded worried.
“No, can I be ok without you?” She could sense a smile on his face. She had been tricked and it angered her more.
“I don’t want to talk to you”, she said and was about to disconnect the call when she heard him shout.
“WAIT! WAIT!” She brought the phone back to her ears again.
“It’s after so many attempts that you picked up my call. Just hear me out once”, he pleaded, the smile was lost.
“What’s left to listen, Mark? You didn’t say the truth all these months and now you want me to hear you out!”, she tried hard to keep her voice low but was failing miserably. Days of anger built up inside was about to burst. Tears were starting to roll down her cheeks as she opened the door of her car and sat opposite to the steering wheel.
“Ella, I’m sorry darling! I accept it was my fault. But you got to give ‘us’ another chance. Please”, he begged. His words melted her heart. She wanted nothing else other than to be in his arms and forget whatever happened as a nightmare. But the picture of Mark with his family including his wife and a baby boy in his arms shattered all the dreams and burst the bubble of her dreams.
“Please, one last chance? Let’s just meet once”, he said. His sincerity evident in his voice.
She seems to be lost between love and reason. Her soul wanted to unite with Mark’s but her heart was quite afraid of taking the leap of faith.
“I know you are missing someone. Let me bring that person back to you.” He said.
“Who?”
“Me, of course”, he smiled as he said this and so did she. He knew she would come but he also knew that the battle was only half won yet.

Written for A to Z Challenge 2016
Theme this month: A story A week
That’s a tough choice. Heart vs mind. Right vs right. Good one Nibha!
Wife… Baby… What! So Mark has a baggage… Hmmm
I don’t think Ella should go. But if she does.. it just shows that she took a leap of faith now, didn’t she? 🙂
I wonder what Mark has in store for her though. I hope it’s not something bad!
The story ends tomorrow, right?
