Just Another Evening #AtoZChallenge

Read part one here

It was already quarter to eight when she entered the class after changing into a Tee and her brown cargo shorts. Her instructor eyed her intently and that was enough for her to feel guilty. She has again missed the fifteen minutes warm-up session. She directly joined the class.

After more than an hour later, she exited the building. The days weren’t going too well for her. She was crumbling under the weight of work that was handed to her after her best friend had taken three months maternity leave. And now even her zumba instructor handed her the last warning card. Life wasn’t easy. Just as she got in her car, she checked her phone. A message from Joe sat there unread seeking her attention. Its content reminded her of invite which she had conveniently pushed to the back of her mind.
“Looks like if I don’t turn up, he’ll abduct me from my home”, she muttered grimly.

She reached home in dot fifteen minutes. Taking a quick shower she dressed herself in a pair of jeans and a tank top that matched. She ditched her make-up. Putting up just the gloss, she fetched her car keys and cellphone. She didn’t want to give Joe any hints by dressing up for the night.

She drove faster than her usual speed and reached the venue just a minute over quarter to ten. It wasn’t hard for her to check where Joe was when she entered. He was already waving his hand to her frantically when she stepped in as if he had his eyes fixed on the door. She made her way through the tables to reach the back of the place. She was quickly lost in talks with Joe and his friends, Katherine and his fiancé Matt.

An hour or two later, she glanced at her watch. It was time for her to go. Meanwhile, she had already gulped three glasses of whiskey. She knew that fourth one lead her out of her senses. And she clearly didn’t have that intention. She was already feeling a little dizzy. She ordered herself a lemonade as others went on with the next round of alcohol. Another fifteen minutes of constant chatter and she was finally out of energy to keep up with them. Probably they are already high, she thought. She took their leave and started to walk towards the exit. Nobody stopped her for they were already lost in their non sense.

Just near the door, she saw him and paused. Thinking him to be the figment of her imagination or the effect of her drinks she shook her head and started to drag herself again. But the image didn’t fade but only became clearer. Yes, it was him!
