Dearth Of Evidence #AtoZChallenge

The police officer kept his silence.
“Mr. Gupta, Reeti was a very dear friend of mine. Why would I? Or are you also one of the believers of those Page 3 rumors, thinking something was going on between us? ” Frustration was rising in his nerves.
“Of course not! A police officer never believes without an evidence. But it’s my duty to..”, he was cut short before he could complete.
“For evidence, I was attending the Commissioner’s house warming party with my family when this misfortune happened “, David spoke in a tone calmer than before. “Now if you could please guide me through other details of the case.” It was an order more than a request.
“The culprit have been very cautious about everything. There isn’t a single fingerprint to be found anywhere in the house.”
“Culprit wasn’t a ghost Mr. Gupta that he’ll come, kill and go without anyone noticing”, David spoke controlling his anger, “Who informed the police and how did they get to know?”
“Around 1am we got the call, it was the security guard of the building who called.”
“Call him.”
He walked around the house while a constable went to fetch the security guard from the gate. His stomach churned when he saw Reeti lying dead in her bed, with stab in her heart. Her face was cold and stiff. Calmness ruling over ever other expression. He had known that she was going through a rough patch in her marriage, but she didn’t deserve this end. Not being able to bear his emotions any longer, he walked out of the room. He couldn’t bring himself to get the last glimpse of Reeti’s daughter. He couldn’t let himself see Alia’s cold face that might shadow the warm memories of her in his heart. No, he wasn’t that strong.
“Sir, the guard is here”, announced the constable.
David studied his face before shooting him with his questions. He was a person with robust built. His belly bulging out in his navy blue uniform. Fear written all over his face but he was trying hard not to let anyone know that he was trembling.
“I didn’t do anything Saheb. I don’t know anything”, he blurted out, his voice shaking.
“Calm down.Just answer the questions”, David spoke calmly when his mind was anything but calm. The guard nodded.
“Tell us everything that happened”, said David, pressing the recording button his recording device which he had just taken out of his jacket’s pocket.
“Saheb, it was around 1am when Rohan came down to call me. He said that no body was answering the door from Mr. Singh’s home. He was very worried and forced me to come upstairs”, he stammered.
“But why he waking everyone at 1am?”
“I don’t know Saheb. He said nobody was picking up the phone also. He said that something was wrong for sure. I knocked hard and hard, again and again but nobody opened the door. Not knowing what to do I called the police.” He seemed to be more shaken with the murder than anyone present there. David walked away as police asked him his personal details.
“Call everyone from the neighbours to that boy Rohan. I want everyone tomorrow morning at 10”, he said with authority.
Medical team had arrived and was taking the bodies for examination. As David crossed Alia’s body, fond memories of her childhood engulfed him which soon turned into rage. Pushing aside his thoughts he slipped his hands into white gloves and forced himself into his role of detective. He walked around to see any clues that the police might have missed out. But there was hardly anything he could find until he entered the kitchen where noticed blood stains of blood been wiped off near the sink. But sink itself was very much devoid of any stain.

…to be continued here

Any guesses whose blood it could be? Did the murderer actually leave a trail to follow or was he/she as really as flawless as he/she thought himself/herself to be?

  1. I wonder why someone would try to wake her up that late… Again, loved your narration.
PS in the upper half you mentioned Reeti’s body but in lower half it’s Alia… Did i miss something?

  2. Ok a little lost… Rohan is a neighbour????? And when the medical team arrived and the detective was beside Alias body why did her childhood memories haunt him- the detective? What are their ages??? Some clue there????

  3. Yeah, I’m with Ramya on this.. Have lost a little track.. Ages, and when he was moving around Alia’s body, memories came to him.. who is he? The one from medical team or the detective? And is Rohan a neighbour?

    Help me find Nibha..

    Cheers

  4. Every culprit leaves some clue…trying to figure out! I think you should consider making this into a full blown novel after the challenge is over.

  5. So there’s a clue. Waiting keenly to see how the investigation progresses and who’s the killer.

  6. Obvious question! Why was Rohan calling them so late at night? Whose blood stain? No idea!! 🙁 This is bad, I want to know more!!!
