Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing. Her trademark are sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novel author, she works as a self-employed German web content writer, as a translator, and as a faithful servant to all the cats, dogs, fish and birds in her home. What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing.
REVIEW
First things first, Saved in Sri Lanka is an easy read and a short novel which paints romance in new light. It makes an interesting read for those who love to travel and explore new places. It serves as a complete guide to Sri Lanka. Moreover interesting facts and stories are revealed to the reader in an intriguing way and leaves him/her yearning for more. The story is more or less simple but the setting introduces us to our neighbour country wonderfully. Readers can compare that this country is similar to ours in more than one way.
The characters are straight out of the real world painted in the fictional story. Readers can easily connect to their feelings, specially with the female protagonist. However, it is hard to not to fall for the male protagonist, who is perfected depicted as the perfect drool-worthy guy. Amidst the tour of the country their romance quietly blooms. The situations our female protagonist faces are not different that any girl of our society might face any and every day of her life. Through her desire of freedom from the shackles of society she lives in, the story clearly brings out what we all secretly yearn for.
In a nutshell, the excess of information sometimes may bore some readers; otherwise, it makes quick interesting romantic read.
