Too Late?
The day was about to get over. She was still waiting for his call. He couldn’t have forgotten. She thought and kept thinking. She still didn’t understand where did it all go. Was it intentional or just destiny? Or weren’t they meant to be friends? But she had felt the connection she felt with rare few and it was equally reciprocated. But then what happened now?
11:55pm.
He still haven’t called to wish her.
Was befriending him her mistake, she now thought. She felt worse now. There had been time when there were endless talks whole day. And then there were days when there were none. She had spilled some beans now and then; and picked up one or two from his side too. He knew almost all her secrets but it wasn’t vice versa. She knew he understood her and she tried understanding him too. She even did or thought she did. She was never clear.
11:58pm
Still no call. Wait was almost over, but on a negative note. He might have forgotten, she thought. Although it wasn’t likely that the person who could remember the tiniest details would forget her birthday!
Her mind wandered through the lanes of the times when the promises of being friends forever and always being in touch were made. Nothing lasts forever, can only be said.
She had tried to bridge the gap but after a few futile attempts she backtracked. She hadn’t expected this.
But above all, she still wasn’t able to trace the reason for the death of their friendship. Was it all fake? Wasn’t it worth the keep? Were the promises simply white lies? Was it something she said or he misunderstood? There were just questions and no answers and none to answer them! She knew she had lost a friend for a reason unknown or best known only to him.
And the clock struck 12.
Her wait was over. She switched off the phone and went to bed. Tears rolled down in the memory of a died friendship.
Meanwhile he was trying to call her but got the same reply again and again- “The subscriber you are trying to reach is currently switched off”
May he was too late. Too late to finally decide to revive the lost friendship. Today was good day to restart but he lost his chance. Taking whole day to decide whether to call or not, was indeed too late.
This post is written in response to WriteTribe’s Wednesday Prompt- She/He was too late.
Awww.. that’s really sad. The danger of indecision and how it affects relationship. Nicely put.
Yaah… And sometimes it does kill a relationship!
Thank you for stopping by! 🙂
Awww destiny works in strange ways. Beautiful write.
Yes nobody understands the games of Destiny! Thank you for stopping by! 😉

but May be its too late!
I loved it totally! I have faced this scenario a couple of times and yeah, at times even one minute late is too late!
Yah I agree totally! A minute’s delay can cost you a lot at times! 🙁
It’s sad… Sometimes even a moment’s delay can alter the course of things…wonderful !
Thank you 🙂
Yes indeed, a right is needed at the right time!
I’m hoping he can try again tomorrow…maybe it’s not too late yet? Nice story…
May be his guilt won’t let him!
Thank you for stopping by! 🙂
Her D-Day would have been the best day to clear the misunderstanding and revive the dead relationship. But maybe destiny does not will so? Or is human indecisiveness to be blamed?
Its the human tendency to blame his/her indecisiveness on to the games of Destiny!
Why do people in love feel so insecure, love is supposed to make you stronger and more confident. Wish he calls agin tomorrow. Loved your take…
Thank you Sulekha 🙂
But it wasn’t love, it was a good friendship they used to share 🙂
Oh so sad. Hope he doesn’t give up and tries to call another day. As long as you are alive…it is never too late. ♥
yah! sometimes its better late than never!! 🙂
Beautiful take. It moved me and love the flow of words.

Uh oh!! One wrong move, indeed!
yah!
Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
Oh! That’s sad!! If he loves her, he should call the next day. After all, tomorrow is another day!!
Yaah.. But it was all about friendship!
Oh! Such a sad story. I felt choked after reading the end.
Thank you stopping by! 🙂
I think like others he should call the next day. I am at least encouraged that he was trying to call. We all get held up sometimes. Now he needs to call and ask forgiveness and try again. Thanks for sharing.
